Visit to Islamic Center Nusa Tenggara Barat
Begin your day in Mataram by visiting the majestic Islamic Center Nusa Tenggara Barat. This architectural marvel is not only the largest mosque in Lombok but also a symbol of the island’s religious heritage.
Exploring the Islamic Center – I went here because it’s one of the most, if not the most significant buildings in Mataram. From 10 am-5 pm, it should be possible to go up in the tower which is 140m high and has an amazing view (IDR 5,000). On the day I went it was not possible to go up in the tower, but it was free to walk around. Still worth the visit if you’re nearby.
Lots of kids running around asking to take photos with me. Generally, very quiet and relaxed place where you get a break from the busy city-
Cultural Immersion at Pura Lingsar
Delve into the unique religious harmony of Lombok at Pura Lingsar. This sacred temple complex dates back to 1714 and is revered by both Hindu (Pura Gaduh) and Muslim (Wektu Telu) religions. The temple’s blend of Islamic and Hindu architecture and its peaceful atmosphere make it a must-visit for those interested in cultural and spiritual history.
Pura Lingsar is located 5km outside the city, in beautiful ricefields. I had my bike I rented in Kuta, so it was an easy ride there. It’s possible to get there by Bemos, but a taxi/grab is more convenient if you don’t have a scooter.
Entrance to Pura Lingsar is by donation, and you need to use the band to enter. You write the amount you donate in the book, I gave IDR 5,000, but some gave less also so don’t feel any pressure.
Shopping in Mataram
Spend your afternoon exploring shopping in Mataram. From traditional markets like Cakranegara Market to modern shopping malls like Mataram Mall, the city offers a variety of shopping experiences. Look for unique local crafts, beautiful textiles, and handmade souvenirs — perfect keepsakes from your Lombok trip.
Make sure to buy electronics and other products for your Lombok trip to Mataram. In other parts of Lombok, it’s hard to find, so you might have to go to Mataram just for shopping if you don’t have everything you need with you.
