Kuta and Denpasar to Pemuteran

From Bali’s capital, Denpasar, Pemuteran is approximately a 4-hour drive. Travelers can rent a car, hire a taxi, or even take a bus. The route passes through some picturesque landscapes including rice terraces and local villages, providing a glimpse into traditional Balinese life.

Kuta, known for its vibrant nightlife and beaches, is a common starting point for many travelers heading to Pemuteran. The journey can take about 4-5 hours by car or motorbike, offering a scenic route through Bali’s central highlands and along the northern coast.

The cultural heart of Bali, Ubud, is around 3.5 to 4 hours away from Pemuteran by road. The drive from Ubud is particularly beautiful, taking you through mountainous areas and lush greenery. Ubud is a great starting point if you’re looking for a more cultural and scenic journey.

You can rent a private car with a driver to go to Pemuteran for around 850,000 IDR.

The most affordable is to rent a motorbike, but if you’re staying for a long time in Pemuteran you would not need a scooter daily. However, if your budget allows it then having a scooter is very nice and gives you more freedom to explore. You can rent motorbikes in Bali from around 75,000 and then drive to Pemuteran yourself!

Gilimanuk to Pemuteran: The Gateway from Java

For travelers coming from Java, Gilimanuk serves as the entry point to Bali, with ferries arriving from Ketapang. Pemuteran is only a 45-minute drive from Gilimanuk, making it a convenient first stop in Bali after crossing from Java.

Exploring Public Transport Options to Pemuteran

Public transport in Bali can be an adventure in itself. For the budget-conscious and adventurous traveler, this option offers a more local experience.

There is not much public transport going to Pemuteran, but if you’re already in Gilimanuk it’s easy.

If you’re in Bali you have to take the bus from Ubung to Gilimanuk. It takes around 4 hours and costs 60,000 IDR (AC bus).

From Gilimanuk Bemos are running (Small busses), but it is best to be there as early as possible, they don’t go in the night. The Bemoms go from Gilimanuk – Lovina – Singarja. The Bemos only run when they are full, or if you pay for the empty seats. I’ve heard people paying as low as 20,000 IDR to Pemuteran, but I had to pay 50,000 IDR to go there and 30,000 IDR on the way back. It took around one hour of waiting before the bemo left.

Make sure you tell the Bemo when to stop, there are no bus stops. When you’re going back, well you just have to wait. You can also ask for their WhatsApp number or get help from where you are staying. Just wait along the road till you see the red Bemo coming, I only had to wait for about 10 minutes. My hotel could arrange a car to Gilimanuk for 500,000, so it was much better to take the Bemo, the ride is only 30-40 minutes from Pemuteran to Gilimanuk.
